ABOUT: I’ve always been a House-Head and used to watch Derrick Carter, Lego, Justin Long, Mark Farina and others mix in Chicago clubs such as Shelter, Red Dog, and Smart Bar. I finally learned how to work the decks during the winter of 2006/2007 after a chance meeting with Chicago DJ Thelonious Funk turned into an offer of free lessons . I soon decided to spend months of highly focused listening to the most classic 70′s/80′s Disco tracks and 80′s House tracks so that I could gain a substantial understanding of the basic elements of House Music: The various samples, instruments, vocals, arrangements, sound efx, drum patterns, keys and drum machines. I began to hear the music in a different way… being able to hear those classic elements used, referenced, echoed, sampled and/or simply hinted at in 90′s House right up to the most modern releases has allowed me to sink into a deeper & more meaningful connection with House Music. That summer I landed my first real gig at Victor Hotel and I have spun at various Chicago clubs, parties and events since.
In the spring of 2008 I began the first of a few national/international radio residencies. My first home was a 3-year stint on PirateFM in the Greek Isles. Soon after beginning that I was invited to join WCRX 88.1 FM Chicago’s ‘Masters In The Mix’ program, where as one of their most played DJs I submitted a 30-minute live underground House mix every single week for over 3 years. In 2009 I began to be featured on the streaming-video House Music site NewAgeSoul.com, where I gained many listeners while developing a dynamic & unique visual style. On March of 2010 I won the ‘In Soul We Trust’ DJ Competition with over 1900 votes. I was also invited to become one of 40 team members of the now-defunct ‘Traxsource OneUnderground’. This March 2013 I was honored to be chosen as DJ of the Month for HouseHeadSpeaks.com/.
In October of 2010 I created the live streaming-video site www.Undergroundhouse.tv so that I could feature a blend of different styles of underground House Music as mixed by DJs from around the world. This is where I continue to develop my personal style, and along with a team of great DJs, is my base of operations for spreading underground House vibes around the world.
I’m a former guitarist in various Chicago rock bands (Bodhisattva, Octopussy), former owner of Chicago underground rock label Urban Legends Records (The Wesley Willis Fiasco, Trailer Hitch, etc.), previously a writer for various underground punk/rock/alternative music ‘zines. Learned how to play guitar after stumbling into a The JESUS LIZARD show at Chicago’s Cabaret Metro and, after picking my jaw up off of the floor, made my way backstage to ask their guitarist Duane Denison if he would teach me how to play. Thankfully his answer was “Yes”. ….. That was then, this is now… I’m lucky to have finally immersed myself in my passion.. that thing I’d been looking for the entire time without realizing it was always there, in the background, waiting for me to become one with it…. HOUSE MUSIC. Now… every time I get behind the decks I feel like I’m making up for lost time…..
